Purposes of Scouting

Cub Scouting is a year-round family program designed for boy in grades first through fifth.  Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of scouting.  The 10 purposes of scouting are character development, spiritual growth, good citizenship, sportsmanship/fitness, family understanding, repsectful relationships, personal achievement, friendly service, fun and adventure, and preparation for boy scouts.

Membership

Cub Scout members join a cub scout pack and are assigned to a den, usually a neighborhood group of six to eight boys.  Tiger cubs (first graders), Wolf cubs (second graders, Bear cubs (third graders, and Webeloes (fourth and fifth graders) meet weekly or bi-weekly.

Once a month all the dens and family members gather for a pack meeting under the direction of the Cubmaster or pack committee. The committe consists of parents of boys in the pack and members of the chartered organization.

ABOUT SCOUTING

We're not Methodist, do we need to find a pack chartered through our faith?

Every Cub Scout pack is Non-Denominational.  You do not have to be Methodist or a member of the charter church to be part of our pack.

My son is already beyond first grade and has never been a cub scout. Is it too late to join?

Absolutely not!  Boys may join cub scouts at any time if they are in the grades first through fifth.  New members always join a den of the same age/grade no matter when they join.

My son would like to join, but he is a little older and I don't want him to be the only boy in the den working on a lower rank.

New and old den members all work towards the same rank (Tiger, Bear, Wolf, Webelos) based on their age/grade.  All boys must earn their Bobcat rank first by learning the Cub Scout ideals, but you don't have to earn every rank up to the current one for your age/grade.  Lower ranks are simply skipped.

My friend's son wants to join the cub scout pack in the middle of the scout year. Does he have to wait until the next recharter in March?

No, they can join the pack at anytime during the year.  Bring him to a pack meeting or contact our Committee Chairperson, Eric Jones, and his family will be given an application or information on joining the pack.

Does the pack do anything to help offset the cost of the uniform?

The pack has a uniform bank that consists of outgrown shirts.  It also has neckerchiefs and hats from those that have moved on to different ranks.  Matt Willette is the current keeper of the uniform bank.

What is scout tracks?

Scout tracks is a web based program enabling parents to follow their sscout's progress through scouting, view the pack and den calendar for detailed information on events, and access to email leaders and other den members.

What is OAKS?

OAKS is an acronym for "Outdoor Activity KidS."  They meet once a month at different outdoor locations to learn outdoor skills.
